JUBILANT ADAMS

WOLVERHAMPTON Speedway boss Peter Adams was in a jubilant mood after seeing his reshaped side beat neighbours Birmingham 49-41 in last night’s Elite League showdown.

Great Britain star Tai Woffinden raced through the pain barrier after returning from a broken scaphoid to lead the way for the Parrys International Wolves.

But both sides and the track staff deserve massive credit for putting on such a good show in difficult conditions after 24 hours of rain throughout the area.

The maximum three-points for the Monmore men were a massive boost to the club who had newcomer Jacob Thorssell in fine form on borrowed machinery – including a vital 5-1 with Ricky Wells in the penultimate race.

He said: “We are delighted to come away with a win. The Brummies are a hard team to beat because they are very compact and they have got a very good reserve in Auty obviously, so they are always going to be problem wherever they go.

“Heat 14 was very good. That race could have gone either way particularly with the tactical changes that Birmingham were making, but our boys stepped up to the plate and that really was the heat that clinched it for us.

“Tai Woffinden came back with a back injury but still top scored in very difficult conditions, so we were delighted with him, and now he has a few days rest before he heads off to Sheffield for the British Championship Semi-Finals.

“I’m sure our fortunes will change in the second half of the season. We have been struggling with serious injuries for nine week now, which is a very long time, and no team would have coped with that.

“But the team is back together now, and it is in much better shape. You saw the points scoring of Proctor and Lindgren when they were back together, and they rode so long together in the last three seasons, so that is a huge boost for us to be able to arrange the side the way we would like to.”
