WOLVES 50 BELLE VUE 40

Tuesday October 10, 2017
DEPLETED Wolverhampton will take a ten-point lead into Wednesday's Knockout Cup decider at Belle Vue courtesy of a 50-40 home win over the Aces.

The Parrys International Wolves were without four of their top five riders, but were still able to build a handy advantage with a little help from their friends.

Ex-Wolf Ricky Wells was the pick of the bunch for the Monmore men, storming to four straight wins on his way to 13 important points.

Swindon man Nick Morris also chipped in with double figures while seven-time British Champion Scott Nicholls rounded off his night leading home a 5-1 in the penultimate race.

Mark Riss and Nathan Greaves produced one of their best performances together from the reserve berths while stand-in skipper Sam Masters endured an up-and-down night, but still looked classy during the two race wins he managed.

Despite the margin once standing at 16 points, Wolverhampton team manager Peter Adams was pleased with the efforts from his patched-up side.

"I thought it was a good performance in the main," said Adams.

"I thought our guest riders acquitted themselves particularly well and they tried very hard on our behalf.

"It was a shame we allowed Belle Vue to claw a few points back in the latter stages of the contest but we're happy with the win when you consider we are without four of our key riders.

"Ten points is one of those leads that keeps things rather interesting going into the second leg and nothing is won or lost yet that's for sure."

Team line-ups for Wednesday's second leg in Manchester will be issued on the morning of the meeting.
