BACK TO MANCHESTER WE GO!

Wednesday October 11, 2017
WOLVERHAMPTON will head back to Belle Vue next Monday for the deciding leg of their Knockout Cup Final.

Rain throughout the afternoon didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the riders to get the job done – but when it returned after six races with the Manchester men 20-16 up the plug was pulled.

Patched-up Parrys International Wolves were missing four riders due to injury, but called upon former Aces captain Scott Nicholls, Glasgow’s Richard Lawson, Mark Riss’s brother Erik - and rider replacement.

They gave a determined display and the tie was on a knife-edge when the rain returned.

Stand-in Wolves skipper Sam Masters says the stunning Manchester track rules out any home track advantage for the Aces – whatever the conditions.

It is widely regarded as one of the best circuits in the world and often produces thrilling racing.

He said: “I don’t think we are better off going there on Monday. It doesn’t really matter, this track is really even anyway, it’s not like they had any home track advantage so we’ll just come back Monday and start again.

“It was actually better than I thought it was going to be but that next shower just ended it.

“The base of the track was taken off and it rained again so it would be really slippery and dangerous so the vision wasn’t going to be good for the boys either.

“Whatever the team we put out we will come back on Monday and try and defend our lead and win the cup.”
